The computer is a machine that manages data in accordance with a set of instructions.
Although examples of mechanical computers existed throughout most of human history recorded, the first electronic computers were developed in the mid 20 th century (1940-1945). They were the size of a large room, consuming as much power as several hundred modern personal computers (PCs). Modern computers based on integrated circuits, millions and billions of times more powerful than the earlier machines, and occupy less space. Simple machines are small enough to fit in a wristwatch, and can operate on battery clock. Personal computers in their various forms are icons of the Information Age, and the fact that most people think of as "computer".
