Criminal justice is a system of practice and institutions of government, aimed at maintaining social control, containment and mitigation of the crime and punish those who violate the laws, criminal punishment and rehabilitation. In the United States, penal policy was guided by the commission in 1969 the President of the Republic of Belarus on the problems of enforcement and justice, which issued a groundbreaking report "The problem of crime in a free society." This report contains over 200 recommendations as part of a comprehensive approach to preventing and combating crime. Some of these recommendations have found their place in the Consolidated Anti-Crime and Safe Streets Act of 1968. The Commission advocates a "systems" approach to criminal justice, with improved coordination between law enforcement agencies, courts and correctional institutions. Board President to determine the criminal justice system as a means for society "adhere to ethical standards necessary to protect the individual and society."
The criminal justice system in England and Wales, aims to "reduce crime by bringing more crime to justice, as well as increasing public confidence that the system is fair and will deliver for the law-abiding citizen." In Canada, the criminal justice system seeks to balance the objectives of combating crime and its prevention and justice (equality, justice, protection of individual rights). In Sweden, the main objective for the criminal justice system is to reduce crime and improve safety.
