Job hunting mistakes to avoid

With economic downturn and massive lay-offs, finding a job is relatively much more difficult than it used to be. Therefore, you are advised to avoid any and all pet peeves-especially the ones given below, shared by our experts:

  • ‘Excuse me, what position is it for’-don’t even wait for the interview to be over once you have uttered such sinful words. You cannot expect an HR manager to consider you if you show up uninformed about the position, to say the least.
  • Mass messaging many companies about your existence and a link to your profile is a bad idea. If you are sincerely looking for a job, then take it seriously and cater to every potential employer individually.
  • Your background, education, experience or in the least willingness should be aligned with the job posting. No common ground between a candidate’s application and job posting is one of the most non-sense things an applicant can do.
  • Even if you are the best, you cannot be flawless. When an employer asks you about any regrets or weaknesses, many “perfect” people respond ‘nothing’. It gives the recruiter an idea about the level of insecurity you suffer from and your inability to face your inadequacies. Watch out before this perfect costs you a job opportunity.
