Smart Career Tactics
The ability to make the right decision at the right time is critical to a successful career. At every point in your career you will be faced with decisions and your choices will have a huge impact on the future course of your career.
The following tactics will help you to make the right decisions so that you do not jeopardize your career:
- Take blame when it is due. Acknowledge problems when they occur and accept your share in them, rather than blaming your colleagues or external factors. Once you are able to do this, you will be able to identify how to avoid those problems in the future.
- Get your priorities right. Do not waste time by spreading or indulging in unverified information.
- Find out the truth. Approach the right people to find out information and to get the true picture, instead of obtaining information from others who may or may not report it accurately.
- Be a problem-solver. Identifying problems is not good enough. You need to be a problem-solver, who comes across with viable solutions
- Be a team player. Learn to put aside your petty rivalries and collaborate with your colleagues on team projects. When more people work together on a project, they can contribute more ideas and this helps to make a project a success. Rivalries and quarrels can ruin the success of a project.
- Voice your concerns but do not be too vocal. Learn to speak up about what is bothering you so that your issues may be addressed. At the same time, however, know when to stop. By being too communicative about your fears and problems, you may convey the impression that you lack confidence in yourself.
- Always be optimistic. Focus on better prospects rather than the miserable situation you may be stuck in now. This optimistic attitude will ultimately drive your behavior and successfully engage others.
