Seeing Yourself Clearly

Self-concept is a very important part of one’s personality but this view maybe tinted due to unintentional biases that one might hold. For example, your success in a mathematics course in high school might lead you to imagine yourself as a king-of-numbers or trouble-shooter. Not that it can not be so, but maybe this talent isn’t well matched with your driving force. Although you excel at math, you glow under attention and many people have commented about you being an amazing orator. How about you step back and analyze that aspect of your personality while assessing your career?

The problem with this exercise is that when it’s about your own self, it’s very difficult to be objective. Curbing subjectivity completely is no mean feat. Therefore, take opinions from someone who knows you well and can objectively analyze you-strengths and weakness alike. This will help you decide the level of compatibility with any specific job or career.

These opinions can also answer the gnawing dissatisfaction you came across your mid-career. It could be lack of opportunities or a problem at more personal level, but this would definitely help you see through that self-veil many of us have on. It will help you locate your strengths and weaknesses, along with your talent and motivation.

Thus, before any grand expression or decision, make sure you check with your inner-self and a few around you for an unbiased amalysis.
