Reducing Stress

Have you ever experienced the snap of stretchable band? Trust me, it hurts. Also, when it snaps back, it loses its original shape and capability. The same is the case with us human beings-we snap or crave to snap back to our original form if we are stretched too much. Not only would it cause stress but also drain you out. For example, you have always performed exceptionally well with independent projects. But due to professional constraints, you are forced to work with a team. You may work hard and perform will but after a while, you have stretched yourself thin and seeming to lose control. It is very crucial that you take charge before you fall off the edge and situation becomes irrevocable.

Start with identifying stressors and remember the four As-Avoid, alter, adept and accept. Other methods that may come in handy are:

  • Learn to say ‘no’
  • Avoid people who stress you out and try to stay in control
  • Learn to express and compromise both
  • Make adjustments according to the eagle’s view
  • Don’t expect perfection from yourself and learn to forgive others and yourself
  • Relax-get a hobby, work out, connect with others, etc
  • What you eat is what you are-so have a healthy diet and avoid caffeine, alcohol and drugs

It is not very difficult to align your hard work and strengths in the same direction-all it needs is some time, and you owe at least this much to yourself.
