Anthropology

Course for anthropology has its intellectual origins in the natural sciences, and humanities. This course will examine great issues in Africanist anthropology as part of a broader introduction to the history and politics on the continent. Students will explore the broad contours of European colonialism, beginning with the 19 th century, a wave of national liberation movements that swept over the 20 th century. It also provides a more intensive introduction to areas of faculty specialization, including social and political organization, economics and human ecology, religion and symbolism, and anthropology of medicine and scientific research. Geographical specialization include cultures of Latin America, the Middle East and the United States.
