Best Jobs for Stability
Recessions are typically associated with layoffs and employments. The general perception is one of instability and job insecurity. Yet, there are still some professions where job stability and security are both prevalent. In fact, careers in these professions actually become more lucrative during a recession.
Health Care, Pharmaceutical and Medical Industries
No matter what the state of the economy, people will continue to fall sick. Senior citizens require medical attention and the demand for medicines, pharmacists, doctors and other healthcare professionals has increased tremendously. These careers are projected to grow at a rate of 50,000 new jobs a year over the next decade.
Education and Teacher Training
Education is another profession that thrives regardless of the state of the economy. In order to pursue this career, a bachelor’s degree is sufficient, but an alternative training course is also acceptable in some states.
Graphic Design
This career too has a stable pay check attached to it in a stable economy. As more and more companies shift away from print media towards online media, the demand for Web designers is expected to increase dramatically, and competition for careers in graphic design careers is expected to be very tough.
Law Enforcement
Despite its efforts and tall claims, no government will ever be able to rid the country completely of criminals. This means that the demand for law enforcement professionals – including police officers – will continue to be strong. While not a necessity for this occupation, the best job opportunities will be enjoyed by those with a formal degree in law enforcement or criminal justice.
Court Reporter
Individuals with strong typing skills can find employment as court reporters, transcribing court case proceedings. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has predicted a growth rate of 25 percent in this industry – a much faster rate of increase than is the average for other careers. This career usually requires formal training, as specialized equipment is used. However this training may be provided on-the-job
