Education for arts

I paint and sketch, and have done some portraits as well. I want a career in arts and would like to know what additional education might be necessary once I finish high school. Do I need any?

One of the many formulas of success is to combine talent and hard work, therefore if you are one of the lucky ones who have found their calling, and then you definitely should pursue it. Art is something that demands lots of talent-and you have it. Many people pursue it after basic education, and although it works for a few, many fail.

Talent, until raw, is no guarantee. Once you have a degree, you can not only polish your skills but also get people to take you more seriously. And if unfortunately you can not attain the required level of success, you study many other courses during your professional studies so you have other options to fall back on.

There are many universities that offer degrees in fine arts and other related fields, so you can visit a few good universities in your area to figure out which one will do for you. Also, view profiles of famous artisans in your area and see how they went about it. But remember, world is much more competent and professional now-so customize your learning accordingly.

My last word to you would be that (a) don’t cap your options yet, (b) go through school booklets thoroughly and (c) never under estimate the value of education even if you have heaps of talent.
