Recession is the best time to go to a school. You may not agree right now but once you’re through this article, you will not only agree but be a staunch believer as well. If you are laid off already or facing dissatisfaction at work (excess work-pressure or salary compression), consider schooling. And while considering that, take into account the following pointers as well:
- Exploit fringe benefits
Many organizations offer educational support programs which not only lax your time at work but also give you the option of financial assistance and stipend. This way, if you are unable to meet financial costs due to recession right now, your company can pay for it and compensate it later. You will not forgo monetary compensation completely due to your educational program, still be employed and become more valuable because of added expertise.
- Long-term planning
Don't think of this month or year, but five to ten years from now; and make your career plan accordingly. Where do you want to be a decade from today? Your educational plan should incorporate all such certificates, diplomas or degree that will pave your way to your goal. But while identifying your goal, be realistic.
- Enhance your distinction Your individuality and expertise are the focus now. What sets you apart and above your competition needs to be enhanced. Your certification course should essentially work on it and highlight it for potential employers. This will also make your goal attainment easier. Try to think out-of-the-box without going overboard
